Thatcham welcomed Bracknell RFC to Henwick on Sunday for their last league fixture of the season. After narrowly beating Rams , Thatcham were confident but also mindful of a visiting team who scored over 50 points against the Red & Blues last season. Since that time Thatcham has worked hard on the structure of their game and defense in particular.

The game started physically with both teams trading blows early on, although Thatcham were getting the edge in the tackle areae making good ground early on and recycling the ball quickly.

The deadlock was finally broken after multiple infringements, Fly half Aidan E. scoring under the posts after quick reactions at a penalty to open the scoring. Unfortunately he could not add the conversion.

Bracknell struck back with a smart backs move scoring under the posts and converting to make the score 5 - 7.

Thatcham began to dominate the breakdown area and after strong running from Keiron R and Aidan R. lead to Bracknell's defence becoming narrow and Ronnie C. scoring after a slick dummy pass. Aidan E converte to make core 12 - 7. Jacob C. playing out of position at scrum half ensure the ball was phizzing around the pitch.

Again Bracknell regrouped and scored with some direct running again converting to make the score drawn at 12-12.

The nail biting half continued as Thatcham were unlucky to have a try disallowed for being held up. However Aidan E. struck not once but twice more to cross the line with strong running lines and a thirst for contact. He converted twice to make the score at half time 26-12 to the Red and Blues.

The second half started with tactical changes and a more direct running style. Thatchams defence was tired and started to creak despite the best efforts of Matthew L. and Frank E. who were relentless in defence. Bracknell scored further try's but Thatcham managed to control the ball successfully with excellent line out contributions from Connor DJ. and Elliot A. under considerable pressure.

A collective sigh of relief as the final whistle went with Thatcham winning by a 2 point margin. Aidan E. at 10 being awarded man of the match after contributing 21 points his boot and quick feet.

Thatcham now look forward to a number of friendly fixtures.
