Later than usual start for U14’s today in a game that saw the U14’s up for a battle.
Quick out the blocks saw Andover take an early 12-0 lead but Thatcham battled hard winning a lot of the ball off of our strong scrum and superb rucking and counter rucking smashing the opposition off the ball which allowed Rhys to find a gap and race away from the defence to score in the corner with Jacob agonisingly just wide with the kick. Andover going over the line late in the half with Thatcham suffering 2 injuries that took some momentum out of their play.
HT 5-17
2nd half started the same way the 1st half finished, with Thatcham rucking and counter rucking Andover off the ball, creating a platform for the backs to have a bit of play but falling just short of scoring. Another injury really unbalanced Thatcham, players playing out of position and having to borrow from Andover to continue the game. Tiredness had now crept in and Andover went over the line a few more times to put the game out of Thatcham’s reach. Credit to the 13 players(and Andover players) that finished the game and didn’t simply give up, giving everything they had and tackling to prevent more Opposition Pressure right to the final whistle.
Amazing effort from the U14’s from Start to Finish and in every position, wining the Physical battles and never giving Up.
Next up for Thatcham U14’s is Away to Farnborough on 22/03/2026.
