Thatcham Vets remain unbeaten after their resurrection with a hard fought victory against Newbury Bulldogs
The sides met for the second year in a row but this year to remember Adam 'Hendo' Henderson after his sad passing early this year aged only 37.
Adam was a stalwart member of a successful Thatcham Junior side throughout the early 00's and later returned to rugby at Newbury playing social rugby and coaching his son Fred up to Colts age group. Hundreds of people came out to watch the memorial game in which Thatcham ran out winners with nearly 50 players taking to the field.
Thatcham started strong, racing to a 22-0 lead with Matt Langdon, Nick Rance and a Liam Rowland brace exciting the away fans. Newbury sprinkled their side with a number of 1XV players, adding a bit more athleticism than is usually expected at Vets games but Thatcham weathered a lot of pressure and late trys from Sean Richardson and Joe Leadley were enough to keep Newbury at bay.
Many Thanks to our hosts for another great evening and in memory of a great guy. His name now adorns the 'Absent Friends' board at our clubhouse and will be remembered fondly by all.
Next up for the Vets will be Reading Rhinos at Home on 7th February
